Once upon a time, professional women with curly African hair had to straighten their hair to get their foot into the door to get their careers to take off. Today, the story has changed. Women now proudly find creative ways to embrace their natural beauty and still look professional whilst doing so. However, most women do not want to have to gel, heat, or thug at their natural hair so much, just to appear polished and ready for the workplace. The idea is to have as little stress with the most sophisticated professional look possible.
Also, most professional hairstyles I see are all updos or very pulled back hair styles that seem conservative. The dilemma in this is that most women do not wear their hair loose for fear of looking unprofessional and do not want to have their hair in a bun 5 days a week. The pool of hairstyles for the workplace seem rather limited to choose from.
Like a few women out there who do not like the conventional bun, I like to be daring with my hair to work. However, I always find ways to tone down the look when it comes to my outfit. For instance if my natural hair is brightly coloured, I might choose a dark coloured dress, and wear neutral makeup to blend in the look. I like to balance everything out with nice work shoes. This way, I feel like I am able to pull of what ever hairstyle I want while still looking sophisticated.
I found a few hair styles which I think work very well for professional women who still want to look sophisticated, chic and fun while rocking their natural hair in an unconventional way. I have also put up a few clothing ideas for the professional woman which I would personally love to wear. I hope you get inspired by the videos and pictures below.
Enjoy,
One natural hair lover
